PLAYS

Polin

Polin is a darkly comic one-person play about Polin, a young woman trying to understand how her Yiddish comedian grandmother died of sadness. In the hopes of escaping family ghosts, Polin journeys to Frances’ homeland of Poland, where she must grapple with what is and isn’t left behind. Inspired by the playwright’s Yiddish performer ancestors, Polin is about unearthing the past and grappling with family possessions, both emotional and physical. Polin is both irreverent and vulnerable, comedic and tragic, bleak and hopeful.

Winner of Princeton’s prestigious post-graduate Martin A. Dale Fellowship, Polin is a contemporary tribute to Yiddish theater including original songs, clownery, Yiddish ghosts, and, of course, a little bit of shtick… .

Supported + developed by Princeton University's Martin A. Dale ‘53 Postgraduate Fellowship.
