PLAYS

Polin

Polin is a one-woman dark comedy play about being possessed by and obsessed with family ghosts, featuring original music, clown comedy skits, and a series of Yiddish nostalgias…

When Polin’s grandmother, Frances, dies from sadness after a lifetime of performing comedy on Yiddish stages, Polin worries that this melancholy disease runs in the family. In the hopes of escaping family ghosts, Polin journeys to Frances’ homeland of Poland, where she must grapple with what is and isn’t left behind...

Polin asks whether comedy can be bred from tragedy; what does it mean to make art in a graveyard? Inspired by the playwright’s Yiddish performer great-grandmother, Polin is both a travel story and a ghost story.

Maia, a young woman who suffers from inexplicable chronic pain, becomes a test patient for a radical new surgery that would switch out her current body for a healthy, “pain-free” body. With everyone around her claiming to know what’s best for her body, Maia struggles to decide whether she is willing to leave behind the body she’s known her whole life...
